Washington, DC - The National Hispanic Construction Association announced today that the 2012 ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE would be held once again in our nation’s capital on Thursday, April 26, 2012.
This year’s theme will be focused on the national economic picture and the proposed policies and legislation coming out of the federal government geared toward promoting growth and progress.
Peter Fontanes, the Chair of the NHCA, declared “We have to cross the Rubicon this year in order to move the curve up on the graph of national economic growth. However, this also means that the statistical directions for the Hispanic American and migrant construction industry business owners and workers must show a corresponding upward movement too. With the national elections looming ever so closely, we need to see who really is with us and who is out to stop us in our quest for the American dream! We are determined to focus on a meaningful and candid discussion with our nation’s legislative leaders and the White House at this conference"
Maria Patricia Corrales, the Chair of the District of Columbia Hispanic Contractors Association, has been appointed to be the Chair of the event. She said that, “ We are looking forward to having the members of all the associations along with our partners, the legislators and their staff, representatives from the White House and all others to another information packed event. As always, we will gear this event toward not only disseminating important information and networking but also developing opportunities for capacity building for our business owners and our workers.”
The “Cesar Chavez Construction Industry Award” will also be presented to a legislator who has demonstrated leadership in the development of the Hispanic American and migrant construction business industry.
The event will include keynote speeches by key Congressional leaders and Agency heads. It will also have a number of workshops that will include discussions on access to capital, bonding, the Green economy, and job creations. The group will also visit with key Senate and House committee members and their staff on the Hill to discuss and lobby for specific legislation.
The symposium will be held at the Caucus Room of the Cannon House Office building located at Independent Avenue and 1st Street SE, Washington DC 20003. The program will begin at 8:00 AM with a networking breakfast reception. Following immediately will be workshops until Noon when the “Cesar Chavez Construction Industry Award” will be presented.
The event's sponsors include Lowe’s, Sprint, Dewalt and El Nuevo Constructor.
